Kelly West: Featured at Grapes, Barley, and Hops!

from the artist
born in alabama, kwest started traveling soon after highschool, with her art and music always close by, she found herself partial to the street artists and performers of New Orleans, who helped make the city so colorful and lively. constantly sketching musicians around town and at different venues she found herself selling the drawings and ink illustrations to the crowd as well as to the performing musicians.  befriending many of those musicians and artists early on who have chosen this artistic free-lance lifestyle has played a keen role in influencing her undying love of pursuing her passion, and encouraging others to do the same, whatever that passion may be.. -be the change you want to see

Featured at Grapes, Barley, and Hops! Original Lithographs By Parks Reece

This is information posted on the website of Parks Reece  about the lithography process:

Lithography is a printing process invented in 1798 by Aloys Senefelder. Being only superficially similar to the mass mechanical printing process confusingly called "process lithography", it requires the direct participation of the artist at essentially every step. This challenging medium has been employed by virtually all great artists of the ages, including Picasso, Miro, Goya, and Toulouse Lautrec.
In summary, here's how Parks makes an original lithograph. First, he uses a grease pencil, air brush, or other implement to hand draw an image on mylar, which he then transfers to a ball grained aluminum plate. The plate acts essentially as a black-and-white version of only one of the colors that will appear in the lithograph. A color corresponding to the plate is chosen by Parks, and inks are hand-mixed by a skilled pressman. Through collaboration of the artist and pressman, precise color affects are arrived at using essentially the same care and creative freedom a painter uses when mixing pain.

Parks Reece Original Finger Painting- "THE CATFISH AND I"

"It's been said, "most of what we need to know in life was learned in kindergarten". That is at least true of my art education."
-Parks Reece

Parks Reece learned to finger paint from age 3 to 7 under the tutelage of his mother, a nationally known painter and, Ruth Shaw, the originator of finger painting as it is known today.

from the artist:
A lifetime of enjoying art as a hobby has led me to share my work with everyone that has the same passion or just enjoys browsing.
From Childhood I've loved getting a smile, laugh, gasp or even "what were you thinking?" from the pictures I would create.  I always try to capture just the moment that tells the story or makes a statement, make the picture worth a thousand words.  I guess with that being said, I love illustrating.
With a strong moral upbringing I found myself fascinated with the conflict of good and evil. It seems this fascination is woven through out mankind's existence.  Even tales told by the most well intentioned parent, to convey a moral, could chill a child’s bones and leave an impression for a lifetime.
Often the most humorous stories seem to need some pain and misery with a good dose of humiliation...I guess we relate...right?
So this sets the idea behind much of my works.  Most important is that when you look at one of my pictures, it touches something in you.
